Syncing Google contacts in Mac OS X Mountain Lion

The option for syncing Google contacts in Mac OS X Mountain Lion is still there. You just have to know where to look.

This weekend I installed Mac OS X Mountain Lion on my iMac. It seems to run faster and more stable then the previous version. Of course Apple is pushing you to use iCloud which I do for my bookmarks and some documents. Never the less I want to keep my contacts in sync with Google. Unfortunately I could not locate where to set this option. It just vanished from the interface. In many forums I read that the option doesn’t exist any more. Good news is, that the option is still there. You just have to know where to look.

My first attempt to do the sync over exchange was a let down because you can’t use the necessary SSL to connect to the Google server. I continued to click through the interfaces and behold. Once I opened up the contacts application yet again and went to the account settings, hidden under the “On My Mac” account, you will find the option to sync with Google.

Nicely hidden Apple but now it works like a charm.
